Thomas the Train Costume

Thomas the Train - Cardboard Costume

My son LOVES trains - most especially Thomas.  His birthday was in October so we decided to make this Thomas Train for his Thomas birthday party as well as for Halloween.

We started with two empty diaper boxes - because we never have a shortage of those.
(and hey!...it kind of looks like a train already)

We used a good deal of duct tape to hold all the pieces together - you can't see the tape anymore, once you start spray painting.

Our next hurdle was to find something that would create the rounded look of Thomas' boiler - which leads into his face.

We bought this form tube from HomeDepot and cut it to the shape and size we need.  We also had a lot left over - it might just be taking up room in our garage.

We had to cut an opening for fella's body to fit into - so here we are testing the size. He doesn't smile for many pictures, but he was quite excited to see this cardboard choo choo.

My husband bought that small cardboard tube for the funnel from Home Depot while we was out...to my slight annoyance...because I was planning to use a paper towel roll.  Oh well.

Next up: blue spray paint and a creepy Thomas face...

We added black spray paint, the face, and Thomas' windows.  We bought red tape to do the lines on the side of Thomas, but you can easily paint it as well. Then Jaden got to wear it!

You can click here to download my .pdf of Thomas' windows and numbers.

Most pictures of him wearing it are blurry because he never stops moving.  The one of him crying is post trick-or-treating on Halloween - ahhhh memories.
